What is Square Dancing?

Modern western square dancing is a mentally challenging and a physically beneficial activity.  Working in a team of 4 couples, you move to the rhythm of the music, which helps you physically, and you also need to react quickly and efficiently to the square dance caller’s calls, which keeps you mentally alert.

A good place to get starting with square dancing is to find a local square dance club.  There you will find other like minded and active people.  Sort of a ready made group of friends.

There is a bit of a time commitment to learn the different calls.  But it is time well spent.  Not only can you dance on club nights, you will be able to dance at special Saturday night dances and weekend festivals.  Ever expanding your network of friends.  If you are a traveler, you can find square dancing happening all over the United States and all over world, and all in english.

Dancing is done to music ranging from traditional to current day tunes.  Including today’s country, 50’s, 60’s, & 70’s, and the likes of Lady Gaga and Maroon 5.
